We have all seen a significant growth in mental issues amongst the population and that is ever more occurrent in the workplace. We firmly believe that the best way to mange the mental health of staff and employees is to do provide learning and development in the workplace focused specifically on understanding mental health and how to deal with it.
There is a trend for businesses to contract out the provision of mental health management to an external provider. We think that this practice is inherently wrong as it breaks the bonds between employees and employers and creates an unknown division in the workplace. We feel strongly that mangers and executives should manage their staff regardless of what the issue may be and that in order to provide that level of management and care, line managers, executives and owners should fully understand mental health issues and how they can assist their staff through difficult times
We are hugely experienced learning and development professionals and are fully aware of all of the options available to deliver workplace learning. There is no doubt that our programmes can be delivered online or via Teams however because we use participative learning techniques which combine learning with media, activities, visual and audio presentations and self learning activities we feel that this is best done by personal delivery. In addition we believe that due to the nature of our programmes and subject matter that there are safeguarding issues that need to be monitored, managed and addressed. For that reason alone having two experienced tutors in the room helps to provide safety and comfort for learners.
We believe there are a myriad of reasons why mental heath should be managed in the workplace as opposed to being passed out. The main reason is that managers should know their staff and staff should understand their managers and leaders. In order to maintain a positive work life balance and maintain continuity managers should be fully aware of the strengths and weaknesses of their staff and should be able to build their working ethos around that relationship. They should fully understand the capabilities and stresses that each member of staff may experience and should be able to tailor their work accordingly. In addition we believe that from a productivity and cost point of view it is always better to have employees fully engaged and in place.
